Suckseed (hayanop Boonprakob)
The
story begins with a long flashback to early boyhood for the main character Ped,
a shy kid who is reluctant to get up and sing in school and afraid to reveal
his true feelings for the bubbly, popular and talented girl Ern. He does work
up the courage to ask Ern for help in singing a Loso song. She loans him a
cassette tape and then almost off-handedly notes that she's moving away that
weekend.
Ped
then uses a borrowed, out-of-tune guitar to wail his own version of the Loso
song and tack it onto the end of the tape but botches trying to return it to
Ern. He then tells a fib that causes confusion and problems later in life.
Flash
forward to their teenage years, Ped (Jirayu La-ongmanee) is hanging out with
his long-time buddy Koong. Koong has always lived in the shadow of his
more-talented and popular twin brother Kay, and Kay plays lead guitar in a
slick, polished rock band called The Arena.
Partly
to try and upstage Kay but mainly to attract girls, the lovable goofball Koong
decides he's going to form a band. And Ped, to his astonishment, will of course
play bass. The drummer Ex is chosen for his rhythmic abilities on the
basketball court. However the band Koong and Friends is nearly derailed when Ex
promptly and painfully breaks his arm attempting a stunt dunk shot.
With
the drummer's arm in a cast, they play their first gig anyway, at a children's
art fair. With their loud brand of sloppy, blood-spurting pop-punk, pumping out
a cover of Moderndog's first hit "Busaba", the power trio only
succeeds in scaring the screaming children to tears, but they do gain one fan –
Ern, who has returned to Chiang Mai for her senior year in high school.
She
likes the heartwarmingly gutsy attitude of Koong and Friends and joins up on
guitar. Ern is played by newcomer actress Natcha Nualjam, daughter of veteran
Thai blues axeman Laem Morrison. Shredding comes naturally for her as she blows
the boys away with her fiery musicianship and easy charm. The situation is
difficult for Ped, because he still harbors feelings for Ern, and now Koong is
in love with her too.
So
it's a battle between bandmates over the girl. And it's a battle between bands
when Ern jumps ship over to The Arena. Koong and Friends, later dubbed SuckSeed
in an animated sequence ripped from the ballpoint-inked pages of a schoolboy's
notebook, eventually face The Arena in a music contest in Bangkok.
There's
excitment as the SuckSeed boys work on their chops and prepare for the big
show, but ultimately the conflict between friends boils over and severely
affects the band's performance.
Will
Ped and Koong reconcile? What about Ern?
Aside
from the music that's actually performed by the actors, SuckSeed is
propelled by appearances from top Thai rock and pop acts in stylish music-video
vignettes that bolster the story and underscore the emotional moments for the
characters.
Pod,
the lead singer of Moderndog, serenades young Ped with the song "...
Before", a ballad that was memorably used as a motif in Wisit
Sasanatieng's Citizen Dog.
Pu
Blackhead turns up in a hilarious music video shot in a market and is complete
with slow-motion and freeze moments of the market vendors and Pu mugging for
the camera. Blackhead was at its height 10 years ago, but is not quite popular
now, so Pu's appearance was a blast from the past.
Other
musicians turning up are falsetto-voiced singer Dak from Big Ass, making a leap
from a bridge, as well as the frontmen from the bands Paradox and So Cool.
Actor-musician "Pe" Arak Amornsupasiri even turns up in a brief shot
that had the audience shouting in surprised recognition.
And
the rock band Bodyslam, the reigning music act in Thailand at the moment, plays
an integral part, with the SuckSeed boys breaking into Bodyslam's music-video
session and prompting the anger of cameoing director Ruetaiwan Wongsirasawad.
Later, the band's singer and Pepsi pitchman Toon helps to convey a talismanic
"pick of destiny" to struggling guitarist Koong.
Paraphrase
The movie drags us to the past wherein
the shy boy, Ped, is seen to be reluctant to stand up and sing in front of the
whole class unlike his classmates who are more than willing to show their
talents to everyone. He survived the ‘talent portion’ with the help of his
classmate, Earn. With that, he started to grow fond of the pretty, popular and
talented girl but he is afraid to show his feelings to her. How is he going to
let her know about his feelings?
Ped
is eager to know more about music. She loans him her favorite collection of
rock songs telling him that when he can sing that particular song, he must show
it to her. Brimming with determination, he uses an old and off-tuned guitar to
make his own version of that “particular song” and recorded it to the end of
the cassette tape but failed to return it to her. He then stumbled into a
situation wherein he needs to tell a lie—which later led to confusion among the
characters.
All
his life, Khung had been overshadowed by his more talented and popular twin
brother, Kae. It doesn’t help that his brother is plays the lead guitar in a
cool band named The Arena. Ped, on the other hand, is still a shy guy who gets
to follow whatever Khung says—from playing yoyo, to playing cards, to
roller-skating, and more.
Mainly
to attract girls but still, wanting to upstage his twin brother, Khung had
decided to form a rock band—it was called “Khung and Friends.” Khung plays the
lead guitar and also the vocal while Ped plays the bass guitar. Of course, a
rock band wouldn’t be without a drummer. It was X, a basketball player, who got
the role. Unfortunately, before their debut, X painfully breaks his arm after
failing a dunk shot, leaving his arm in a cast.
With
the drummer’s arm in a cast, the band continued to play in their first gig—on a
children’s art fair. With their musical talents, or lack thereof, the trio
managed to scare away the children who were screaming, to tears. Who wouldn’t
be? Their music was loud, sloppy, and most of all, blood-sprouting. Unknown to
the trio, they gained one fan after the event.
Summary
Ped
was a shy boy who had never listened to music until introduced to the world of
Pop and Rock by would-be childhood crush Ern. Ern soon left for Bangkok,
however, and it is six years later in their final school year when she is
re-introduced to Ped and his brash best friend Koong. Koong convinces Ped,
along with schoolmate Ex, to form a band, partly to be cool and attract girls,
partly as an attempt by Koong to try and one-up his popular twin brother Kay.
Their musical talents aren't great, but that doesn't stop them from trying.
However, when Ern decides to lend them her outstanding guitar skills, Ped and
Koong's shared attraction to her puts a strain on the band's survival, as well
as their friendship.
Quotation
Based on this short story about teenage
dreams, friendship, romance, and their expression through music. We can express
our feeling without obey a good friendship. And so, this story give us some
messages that without leaving your best friend we can get the true love that we
want.
Crazy little thing called love
Nam
is a girl who is secretly attracted to P'Shone (many people pronounced it as
Shone), her senior at school. However, she feels that Shone is too good-looking
for her. Instead, Nam and her three friends turn to the help from the book
'Nine Recipes of Love', which is believed to have a magical power to win
affection from the boy of choice. Nam's father works in the States to support
his family and promises to Nam and her younger sister that he will send a plane
ticket for the US to whichever one of them earn the first place in school. Nam
misses her father and is determined to study hard to raise her grade.
Nam
and her friends are denied by the Thai dance club after picking a fight with
Faye, a pretty girl at school. They instead join the English Drama club headed
by Teacher Inn, where Nam is chosen to play Snow White in the school drama, Snow White, during the
school fair. Shone is also helping the Drama club as a stage painter. After the
drama, Nam becomes popular among the boys at school. Nam also tries to change
her appearances by wearing contact lens, braces, and whitening her skin. Her
look improves dramatically. She is also chosen as a drum major of the school
parade, while Shone joins the soccer team as a striker.
During
the second year of the story, Shone's childhood friend, Top, joins the school.
He immediately likes Nam and some days later, he confesses his love to Nam. She
is shocked and does not answer to avoid the risk of hurting Shone's best
friend, Top. Top takes her silence as an acceptance. Next morning, Top asks Nam
to go to the football match to see Shone play. After the match, Shone tells Nam
that he wishes that he had a girlfriend, much to Nam's shock. They are
interrupted by Top before Nam can say anything back. At the birthday night
party of Ake, one of their friends, Top and Shone share a story where both
liked the same girl and after that experience, they say that they have promised
to never to fall in love with the same girl again. During a dance, Top kisses
Nam's cheek, making her uncomfortable. That night, Nam breaks up with him. A
heartbroken Top asks Shone to promise never to pursue Nam because he wouldn't
be able to see his best friend with the girl he loves. Shone acknowledges his
friendship to Top by promising to do so.
Three
years have passed by since the beginning of her story. Nam secures the first
position in her exam, which means she will get to stay with her father in the
States. Nam and her friend finally realize that the book did not do much help
and decides to use the 10th recipe: Direct confession. On the closing of the
school year, Nam finally confesses to Shone, only to find out that she is too
late. Shone is already going out with Pin, his classmate. That night, Shone
comes home to find out that he is accepted into a trainee program in a
professional soccer team, and has to leave for the camp the following morning.
He goes into his room and takes out a diary. That diary contains all of Nam's
photos. Shone has always loved Nam but never managed to pluck up enough courage
to tell her. Shone leaves his diary in front of Nam's house.
Nine
years later, Nam is a successful fashion designer who recently came back from
the States and is asked to appear in a variety show. Shone is now a
professional photographer. In that variety show, Nam and Shone reunite.
Paraphrase
Nam (Pimchanok Lerwisetpibol), a young and
ugly girl had a huge crush with Shone (Mario Maurer), the school’s heartthrob
since her freshmen year. With the help of her supportive friends, she somehow
got the chance to have some brief, close encounters with her knight in shining
armor. It was not an easy road for Nam, though. Some girls were more beautiful
and more talented than her. She thought that she will have no chance to be with
Shone. Eventually, she grew up and became beautiful and discovered something
more about Shone.
Summary
Nuanced romantic comedy story
that tells the story of a girl Thailand is mediocre, even can be said is a bad girl. This girl named Nam. Nam is not beautiful but she
also was not a smart girl.
Nam was idolized shone, he
was a sophomore Nam in M4 (SMA class X). Shone
is the inverse of the Nam, he's handsome and smart, but that's
not all, shone the football player who idolized the girls at his school.
Nam has always shone notice. One day, Nam and his friends wanted to buy
drinks, but instead there are kids who grab that drink spilled Nam. When it shone not bear to see
it, finally bought drinks for Nam and his
friends.
Nam began to feel shone incident is a
good man. Nam began trying hard to change aspects
of themselves. Ranging from skin whitening, lengthening the hair and began to study diligently. Nam Enterprises not only
that, she began participating clubs Traditional Dance, Drama, and Marching. Nam tried
to do all the things to shone. Until finally Nam tries to express
his feelings. But courage is
not Nam sweet fruit. Apparently, shone've
been together with Pin (friend shone).
9 years later.
Nam and meeting unexpectedly shone. They
met on the television program "Bangkok". At that Nam has become a famous designer in New York and shonealone photography has
become famous. These meetings create more
love shone Nam that he
had tried to forget it.

how it made us happy just by seeing his/her face? How we were willing to do
stupid things like intentionally passing his/her class, staying at school
longer, etc just to grab his/her attention? How not seeing him/her could ruin
our mood the whole day? How we lost word and finally talked nonsense when we
finally had the chance to talk to him/her? How a simple compliment from him/her
could make us jump to the sky? Remember how school sucked because you were
ugly, not popular, and in a period of time you felt like you had no friend at
all?
